How To Create A Brief For Shopfitting Contractors

Posted on

Shopfitting services are invaluable for small to large businesses that struggle to form an identity and functional workspace on their own. This is very common as most people who go into business and retail are not experts in design and interior decorating so it makes sense you will need some help. To get the shopfitting services that you need, you will first need a brief that different contractors can then apply for. This brief is very important because it is what all of these businesses will be basing their plans around and so it is vital you get it right. Here are a few tips for you when drafting up your brief.

Mention Any Non-Negotiable Needs

Many businesses have equipment, tools and specialised needs that have to be present for them to function properly (i.e. a mechanic needs a large workspace that can fit multiple cars). When creating your brief, you should first list out everything that you absolutely must have so that you don't forget later on. It may seem obvious to you, but your shopfitting services provider only knows what you tell them, and you don't want to accidentally mislead them. Once you have this base, you can start adding things that you would like and work from there.

Discuss Whether You Have Rigid Ideas Or Are More Open

When it comes to shopfitting, most contractors want to know what sort of client they will be working with as it is a fairly co-operative process. If you are the type who will be vetoing a lot of decisions, that is totally fine as it is your business, after all, but you should make that clear. You do not want to find out that you clash heavily with someone you are paying to help you fulfil your goals. On the other hand, if you have virtually no direction and are desperate for any help, then indicate you are happy for a more hands-off approach.

Don't Beat Around The Bush When It Comes To Money

Money can be a little bit of a dirty word when it comes to discussing contracts, but it is best to be upfront so you cut out any doubt and find the best fit for you faster. If you have certain budgetary constraints, then say so. You will still get a wide range of briefs from smaller shopfitter services who are trying to make a name for themselves. If money is no problem for you, you should still give a rough budget so that things do not become too crazy. You still want a functioning, beautiful space, and that doesn't always mean you need to spend countless rolls of cash on it.
